Serigraph printing is a very durable type of chemical printing that is done on any type of flat surface, giving a glossy finish. Serigraph printing, a popular technique, where a hard plastic item called squeegee transfers the ink coming from rectangular screen to the surface.
Serigraphy is also called screen printing, silkscreen printing or serigraphy printing. It can do large printing not possible by other techniuqes. Serigraphy can use all kinds of chemical inks but environmently friendly solvent dye and UV inks are used more often.
Printing stencils are made of wood or aleminnuim in serigraphy. Standard size seripraphy stencils can be made in different sizes if wanted. After stretching, photographic stencils method is used. The exposure to light hardens the silk that is inked with special photographic ink. The stencils then are cleaned with cellulosic thinner which dissolves the soft parts, leaving the hardened parts behind.
Serigraphy is often used in painting, textile, graphic arts, advertisement props, collar tags, button pins, promotional materials and many other fields. Serigraphy can be used on any surface.
Serigraphy compared to other printing techniques is much more durable. While it is very high quality, color richness and application duration is not as good as the other methods.

There are many types of papers used in printing. Bristol board is one of the most used ones. Bristol board, front side looks white and back side looks a bit dirty white, looks like a cardboard. A high quality paper type with one side as glossy and the other side as rough and matte. The glossy side is very suitable for printing. The rough part is not good for printing so only one side is printed for bristol boards and that is the glossy side. Bristol boards can be used in different fields based on their GSM and size. Ver durable bristol boards are often used in books, brochures, magazine covers or packages, cardpostals etc which require single side printing. Bristol papers are much more economic than other paper types. They are considered when price is a concern.

Fancy papers are 60 GSM to 800 GSM luxury papers. Fancy papers have a texture. With a combination of cotton and cellulose, they gain interesting textures and by applying varaq, relief methods, good results can be obtained. For this reason, if very unique results are wanted, fancy papers with various textures are often choosen.
Fancy papers can be single sided or double sided, with custom patterns and textures. Textured fancy papers are used in from stationery to tags. Fancy papers are used in business cards, folders, books, agenda covers when price is not a concern.
Fancy papers such as special covers and cardboards are often used. Fancy papers are very popular with invitation cards with decorations, soft touch application in plike products for those who want something very high quality and those who make boxes for textile products.

3 degrees of quality is used in paper. First quality, second quality, third quality.
High Grade Paper:
Their celloluse amount is low, they are white. They are used in books, letterheads, test books etc. They can be in various GSM. They are high quality and most popular paper quality.
Lightly Grazed Paper:The sellulose and wood amounts are nearly identical in this paper and it is not exactly white. It has a cheaper price than first quality paper and used in printing often. They can be in various GSM.
Newsprint:The wood amount is much higher than sellulose amount in this paper. Its color is more yellowish, also known as straw paper. It has a very low price but not very suitable for printing.

Glossy papper is a paper type coated with a thin layer made of certain materials or polymer composites which gives the paper weight, glossyness, smoothness or lessened ink absorptiveness.
It is also known as photo paper, it comes in matte, half glossy, glossy types. Its surface is slick and smooth. Bright prints can be made with this kind of paper. They are used in magazines, brochures, catalogs and posters. They also give very good high quality results with digital and color printing.

It is a thin layer of protective material covering the surface of the paper used often in printing and textile. In printing, lamination is covering the paper for protection. The materials used in lamination are varnish, lacquer, and cellophane. The coating can be matte, half-matte or glossy according to needs of the design. There are hot and cold applications for lamination. In cold lamination, the process is applied to one side only. If the paper or ink are sensitive to heat, then cold lamination is applied. In hot lamination, heat and presure is used. Often, the product is placed between two sheets and they are merged with dry adhesive, heat and pressure. As it gets colder, the adhesive becomes hard and this connects the cellephane to the paper. With hot lamination, the results are more long lasting.

Cellophane:
The paper is coated with polyurethane(low density glass, looks like plastic.) There are matte and glossy cellophane.
Varnish:
Oil based protective material. Used in offset printing. Two types of varnish are cellulosic and synthetic.
Dispersion Lacquer: Water based protective material. Dispersin lacquer is brighter than varnish and more durable to friction. It is applied with offset printers. Dispersion lacquer is often used when the material is expected to touch food according to food regulations.
Thermo Lacquer:
Also known as Blister Foil, thermo lacquer is a water based application. Thermo lacquer becomes sticky when applied. It is an important method in printing and surface coating.
UV Lackquer:
It is applied with UV lights. This method gives higher brightness and matte finish and used when these are important to the product. It is a very useful and practical method in the field.

Lamination is used many fields including packaging, printing, textile, otomobile and medical fields.
In printing, the paper is protected with a sheet of plastic to make it more durable. There are glossy, matte and silk lamination types. Lamination is often used for packaging and materials like book covers, business cards, brochures, maps and bookmarks. Lamination increases the durability of products increasing their quality.
In textile, lamination is used with double sided adhesives sticking clothes to eachothers. Lamination is used for shoes, bags and belts and other furnishing fabrics.
In furniture, it is used to add patterns and colors with MDF technique to simple chipboards to make them look better and more durable. With lamination, insulation and a better look is achived.

Cellophane is a type of coating. Cellophane adds a thin and transparent layer that provides extra protection. Printed products are protected from water, light and other environmental exposure with this lamination technique. It looks like a thin plastic layer. It is applied after printing to protect them from exposure. Product becomes harder to tear and wear and thus becomes more durable, higher quality and long lasting.
Cellophane can be applied to business cards, inserts, brochures, invitations, bookmarks, books, folders, bags etc. Cellophane can not be applied to paper thinner than 135 GSM. There are two types of cellophane, matte and glossy.
Matte cellophane is often preferred. Matte finish has a stylish look to it. They are preferred with photos and simpler desings by companies.
Glossy cellophane is eye catchingly bright. It protects and adds shine. They are often used with business cards, brochures and other printing materials. Both cellophane methods can be used on any printing materials.

Cellophane is used to protect sensitive paper from deforming by exposure. Cellophane is a coating application. The coating from cellophane gives paper a high quality look, can be in matter or glossy finish protecting the paper from sun and moisture. Cellophane is used in printing frequently and it is a process that increases the quality of the product.
There are a few points to give attention; do not apply to below 135 GSM paper because the heat might tear or break the paper. Another point is the color, it can change a little bit. This is because the light is refracted by the coating.

High Grade Paper:
White paper with high amount of cellulose. It is used for high quality printing like books, letterheads, brochures and other printing products.
Lightly Glazed Paper:
The amount of cellulos and wood are almost equel in this paper type and its color is not exactly white. It is suitable for printing but not for high quality printing. It is preferred for books.
Newsprint:
The wood amount is higher than cellulose in this paper type. The color is more yellowish. The price is cheap but not suitable for high quality printing. It is rarely preferred for printing.
Glossy Paper:
It is a very high quality paper type that contains only 5% wood. It is also known as photo paper, they have matte, half glossy and glossy types. Glossy papers are smooth, even and slick. This paper has prints which are very shiny.Bristol Board:
One side is glossy and smooth and other side is matte and rough. It is durable and used in folders, book covers, brochure covers, packaging.
Tracing Paper:
It is half transparent and glossy. It is made of whitened chemically treated cellulose. It is often used by architects.
Tracing Paper has a frosted glass look, it is preffered for example in invitation cards to garner attention.
Art Paper:
Its surface has a texture, also known as fancy paper. Used for business cards and catalogs frequently.
Copy Paper:
This paper contains carbon. The text on the top sheet gets copied to the bottom sheet. It is used for bills, receipts, waybills, checks which need multiple copies.
Kraft Paper:
It is formed from recycled papers. It is thick, cellulose colored and rough. This paper is thicker and more durable than other paper types, it has two colors: brown and white. Often used in packaging, invitations and business cards. For its obsorbing quality, it is used as car mats.
Chrome Paper:
One side is made smooth and whitened, the other side is matte. The smooth side used for color prints. Often used for packaging, like drug packaging.
India Paper:
Very light, thin and transparent(light diffuse) paper. Generally used for packaging breakable things.
Packaging Paper:
Low quality paper, thick and used for wrapping heavy things.

DPI means dots per inch. The resolution of the output is measured with DPI. The number of dots for every inch on the printing material, the higher this number, the higher the quality of photos or other pictures. More dots mean higher DPI, higher DPI means better quality pictures. DPI is an important term in printing. In general, printing is done in 300 DPI and this is considered standard.
In business cards 300-400 DPI can be used. 1200 DPI is reserved for professional photography or huge advertisement pictures.

DPI means dots per inch, the quality of the print is tied to this number. A low DPI will cause a low quality picture, a higher DPI will create a quality picture.
In color print, the photo quality of the camera is very important for the quality in final print. The photo should be at least 300 DPI. DPI can change for the kind of printing needed. In business cards, needed DPI is different from a poster DPI. The lower the resolution, the lower the quality in final print. Thus DPI should be choosen correctly.

In printing, there is a margin left on edges for safety of the design. Also called trim margin protects the design from unwanted problems. During printing, it is not desirable to cut through the design. The layout must be correct and there needs to be left some margin. If adjusted correctly, there won't be extra cutting or leftover white padding on the resulting print. In modern printing, adding 3mm bleed to designs will be enough. For example for a 133x194 mm desing will be 139x200 mm with the bleed. Always add bleed to layouts, without them the print might have errors.

Lacquer is a post print application. It is a kind of lamination method, it covers the surface of the print. It increases durability and adds shine to the paper and is very popular. With lacquer application, the surface becomes resistant to wearing, moisture, sun light and ink dissolution. Lacquer makes the product last longer by making it more durable and it gives paper a high quality look. There are many types of lacquer techniques, customize lacquer can be done according to the designs. It can be done with silver or gold finish. Lacquer gives your product an interesting look and style.

Partial Lacquer:
Instead of whole paper, it is applied to desired parts. Partial lacquer will highlight interesting parts like pictures, logos or brand, making them visually richer and shinier. Partial lacquer is applied in single time with a shiny cellophane application.
Partial lacquer is not applied to the whole paper, it is applied to a part and gives it a shiny apperance. It is often applied to highlight logos, contact information or slogans.
It is an economic choice and considered a standard application. Partial lacquer can be applied to paper between 70 GSM and 400 micro thickness. It is used on catalogs, brochures, business cards, book covers, packaging, textile tags, cardboard bags and stickers.Relief Lacquer:
It is achived by applying the shiny cellophane twice to the area, it gives a more pronounced result. Relief Lacquer is used to accent areas like logos, object, brand more shine and emboss effect. It makes the product look more interesting, stylish and attractive.
Often used on invitations, making them more interesting for special days. It is often used on catalogs, brochures, business cards, bookmarks, packaging, textile tags, cardboard bags, stickers etc. It is not used on products which will be pressed to avoid flattening.Sandy Lacquer:
It is applied partially for protection or landscaping. For a beach illustration, it is an easthetic choich that can give a sand effect to touch. It can be used for sand on a beach, a rough table, texture of a tree, clay of a flower pot etc. The application can change the color slightly. Matte cellophane does not give a successful sand effect.
